
At least eight people lost their lives and 25 others were injured when a truck ploughed into a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Karnataka’s Hassan district on Friday evening, police confirmed.
The tragedy occurred on National Highway-373 after the truck driver reportedly swerved to avoid a motorbike coming from the opposite direction. In the process, the vehicle lost control and rammed into devotees taking part in the immersion ceremony.
Hassan Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha MS said the truck driver, who also sustained injuries in the accident, has been taken into custody.
The injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals, and authorities are monitoring their condition. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
