In a move that has reignited political tensions, former U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday posted a provocative AI-generated video depicting the fictional arrest of his predecessor, Barack Obama, by the FBI inside the Oval Office.
The video, shared on Trump’s social media platform Truth Social, opens with a clip of Obama stating, “especially the President is above the law,” followed by a montage of several prominent U.S. politicians asserting that “no one is above the law.” The video then cuts to an AI-generated sequence showing Obama being handcuffed by FBI agents inside the very office he once held as President. Trump is shown seated nearby, smiling as the scene unfolds.
The digitally fabricated clip concludes with an image of Obama wearing an orange prison jumpsuit behind bars.
The video, though clearly artificial, has stirred widespread debate online over the use of deepfake technology in political messaging, with critics calling it misleading and inflammatory. The post adds to Trump’s ongoing verbal attacks against Obama and other political adversaries as he campaigns for re-election in 2024.
