Ghaziabad police on Wednesday gunned down two men accused of opening fire at Bollywood actor Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly earlier this week. The encounter, which took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, was part of a joint operation by the Delhi Police Special Cell, Haryana STF, and UP STF.
Officials confirmed that both suspects were members of a prominent transnational criminal syndicate. A Delhi Police personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
The case traces back to September 12, when gunshots rang out at around 3:45 am outside Patani’s residence in Bareilly’s Civil Lines area. The house is occupied by the actor’s family, including her father Jagdish Singh Patani, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, her mother, and elder sister Khushbu Patani.
Shortly after the attack, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility in a social media post. Screenshots of his statement, widely shared online, alleged the shooting was retaliation for comments purportedly made by Disha Patani and her sister about two religious leaders — Sant Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya.
Police are continuing their probe into the wider network behind the attack, even as today’s encounter marks a major breakthrough in the case.
