A United Airlines flight departing from Denver International Airport to Edmonton on April 13, 2025, was forced to make an emergency landing after a rabbit was sucked into one of its engines during takeoff.
The Boeing 737-800 was carrying 153 passengers and a total of six crew members. Passengers reported seeing large flames coming from the engine, which led to panic inside the cabin.
According to reports, as the plane was taking off, a rabbit ran onto the runway and was ingested into the aircraft's right engine, causing a loud bang, massive vibrations, and eventually an engine fire. The pilots quickly declared an emergency, shut down the affected engine, and returned to Denver for a safe landing. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Given the rarity of such incidents, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA),the U.S. government agency responsible for regulating civil aviation, noted that only four similar incidents occurred in the United States last year, including one at Denver International Airport, showing how rare such events are.
