The dowry death case that shocked Greater Noida took a fresh turn as police arrested the victim’s mother-in-law, Sans Dayawati, shortly after the prime accused, Vipin Bhati, was shot in the leg while trying to escape custody. Vipin has been placed in 14-day judicial custody.

Nikki Bhati, a young mother, was doused with inflammable liquid, slapped, and set on fire in front of her six-year-old son and sister. “They poured something on my mother and then set her ablaze,” the boy recounted. Despite her father providing a Scorpio and a Bullet bike as dowry, the in-laws allegedly continued to harass her and even demanded a Mercedes. Videos circulating online show Nikki being beaten and dragged before her death.
