UPDATE: Wife Accused of Orchestrating Husband's Murder During Meghalaya Honeymoon
Published on

In a shocking case of premeditated murder, the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was discovered on June 2 in a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji), located in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district. Authorities allege that his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, orchestrated the murder just weeks after their wedding.

According to police sources, Sonam initially offered ₹4 lakh to contract killers to eliminate her husband but later raised the amount to ₹20 lakh. Investigators claim she played an active role in the crime, even helping the accused push Raja’s body into the gorge.

The couple had traveled to Meghalaya from Indore for their honeymoon shortly after their May 11 wedding. Sources say Sonam had made contact with the hitmen in Bengaluru, where they allegedly coordinated travel plans. The attackers accompanied the couple on their trip to the Northeast under the guise of friendly acquaintances.

Authorities believe the motive behind the murder was Sonam’s alleged affair with Raj Kushwaha, a man from the same city. Though Kushwaha did not travel to Meghalaya, Shillong Police report that he helped plan the murder and remained in contact with Sonam throughout.

The case has sent shockwaves across the country, with investigators continuing to unravel the conspiracy behind what appeared to be a romantic getaway that ended in a brutal killing.
