The United States has reaffirmed that its relationship with both India and Pakistan “remains unchanged” and emphasized that its diplomats are “committed to both nations,” following Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir’s recent visit to Washington.

During his visit, Munir met with senior political and military leaders, including a private luncheon with former President Donald Trump in June and a series of high-level discussions in the United States this week.

US stresses balanced ties with India and Pakistan

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce referenced the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, noting, “We had an experience with Pakistan and India, when there was a conflict, that could have developed into something quite horrible.” She added that immediate coordination took place involving the Vice President, President Trump, and the Secretary of State to manage the situation.

Responding to questions about whether Munir’s meetings could lead to increased US assistance or arms sales to Pakistan at the expense of ties with Prime Minister Modi, Bruce clarified: “The US relationship with both nations remains unchanged – good. The diplomats are committed to both nations.”

Bruce also highlighted the recent US-Pakistan counter-terrorism dialogue in Islamabad, saying, “The United States and Pakistan reaffirmed their shared commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation to counter terrorist threats.”

She concluded, “For the region and for the world, the US working with both nations is good news and will promote a future that’s beneficial.”

Munir’s trip marks his second visit to the US in less than two months, reflecting ongoing high-level engagement between Pakistan and the United States.
