US Warns Indian Travelers Against Visa Abuse After Viral Airport Incident

Published on

The United States Embassy in India has issued a firm warning to Indian nationals planning to travel to the US, emphasizing that any misuse of visas or attempts at illegal entry will not be tolerated.

The advisory follows a widely circulated social media video showing an Indian student being restrained by US authorities at Newark Airport, New Jersey. The student, who was reportedly being deported, was seen handcuffed, tied, and pinned to the ground by at least four officials—two of whom had their knees on his back.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the US Embassy reiterated Washington’s stance: “The United States continues to welcome legitimate travelers. However, there is no right to visit the United States. We cannot and will not tolerate illegal entry, abuse of visas, or the violation of U.S. law.”

The video was captured by Indian-American entrepreneur Kunal Jain, who described the scene as "heartbreaking." Jain wrote, “I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night—handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. He came chasing dreams, not causing harm.” He urged the Indian Embassy in the US to investigate the incident and provide support to the student.

The episode has sparked concern within the Indian community, prompting renewed discussions around student travel, visa integrity, and treatment of foreign nationals at US borders.
