At least 50 people are feared missing after a devastating cloudburst hit Tharali village in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, causing flash floods and a massive landslide. The incident occurred in the catchment area of the Kheer Ganga river.

Disturbing visuals from the scene showed a powerful surge of water cascading down a hillside, sweeping away several houses in its path. Screams of panic-stricken residents echoed through the footage as the deluge struck the village.

Rescue operations are currently underway, and more details are awaited.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that relief teams including the SDRF, NDRF, and district administration are carrying out rescue work on a war footing.

“The news of heavy damage caused by a cloudburst in the Dharali (Uttarkashi) region is extremely sad and distressing. SDRF, NDRF, district administration, and other related teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations on a war footing. In this regard, I am in constant contact with senior officials, and the situation is being closely monitored. I pray to God for everyone's safety,” the Chief Minister posted on X.
