Uttarakhand Cloudburst Triggers Flash Floods in Uttarkashi; 4 Dead, 50 Missing, Including Army Personnel

At least four people have died and over 50 are reported missing after a devastating cloudburst struck Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand on Tuesday afternoon. The sudden deluge triggered massive mudslides and flash floods in the Harsil area, severely impacting Dharali and Sukki villages.

Dramatic visuals captured the destruction as floodwaters surged through the region, flattening homes and sweeping away structures like a deck of cards. Heart-wrenching cries for help could be heard as locals scrambled to safety amid the chaos.

According to Uttarakhand's Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman, the cloudburst caused water to rush down both sides of a hill — one torrent hitting Dharali, known for its cluster of hotels and homestays, and the other striking Sukki village.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, 11 Indian Army personnel are reported missing from a camp located in the flood-hit Harsil sector.

Rescue operations are underway with state and central disaster response teams mobilized to search for the missing and provide aid to affected residents. Authorities have issued alerts in nearby areas and are assessing the damage as relief efforts continue under challenging weather conditions.
