The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday responded to the recently signed strategic defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing India’s expectation that Riyadh will consider mutual interests and sensitivities. Speaking at a weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted India’s growing strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia, which has strengthened over the past few years.

“We have noted reports regarding the strategic mutual defence pact between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. India expects that its strategic partnership with Riyadh will continue to reflect mutual interests and sensitivities,” Jaiswal said. He added that the government is closely examining the implications of the agreement for India’s national security, as well as regional and global stability.

The pact, which formalizes a longstanding cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, states that any attack on either country will be treated as an aggression against both. This development comes shortly after Israel’s recent military action targeting Hamas leadership in Qatar. Jaiswal assured that India will take all necessary steps to safeguard its national interests across all security domains.
