A sensitive case has emerged from Chandigarh, where a 21-year-old man and his 17-year-old companion were found dead in a hotel room, days after leaving their homes in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

The man, identified as Arshad, a factory worker from Begarazpur village, and the minor girl had reportedly been acquainted for some time. On August 18, the girl left for school but did not return. Soon after, her family lodged a complaint of abduction against Arshad, leading to an investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanjay Kumar confirmed that the couple’s bodies were discovered on Thursday. A suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which both individuals stated that they were taking their own lives. Initial findings suggest that they consumed poison.

During the period they were missing, police sources said there had been pressure from certain groups to trace the two quickly. Chandigarh police later informed their Muzaffarnagar counterparts about the deaths.

Authorities are now coordinating between the two states to complete procedural requirements and provide clarity to the grieving families. While investigations continue, police have maintained that the note pointed to a voluntary act rather than foul play.
