PONDA: Claiming that there is sufficient water at the Opa plant, Executive Engineer (EE) Nivruthi Parsekar said that the plant treats around 142 MLD of water daily and supply to Tiswadi and Ponda Talukas will not be affected as taps will have a perennial supply during the peak of summer when consumption is high.
Presently, the water level at the Opa plant is measured at four metres when the EE inspected it along with AE Jaywant Prabu.
Parsekar said that the plant here treats around 142 MLD of water on a daily basis and supplies to Tiswadi, Ponda, besides parts of Valpoi, Dharbandora and other areas.
The plant gets its water from the Dudhsagar River and maintains the supply to consumers throughout the year. The department has also erected 17 bhandaras at several places for conservation of water and prevent the commodity from being wasted, says Parsekar.
The Ganjem bhandara and Salaulim Dam also supply water to Opa during summer.
At present 110 MLD water has been released through Ganjem Usgao bhandara to Opa Treatment Plant from February 10.
Similarly, Selaulim Dam releases water as the level dips in Opa during summer.
Generally, water level is maintained at OPA at four metres and as it drops in summer below 4 to 3.5 metres, the water stored.
