PALOLEM: The serene coastal town of Palolem is facing a pressing issue with the absence of pathways leading to its famous beach. Locals from Honware, community leaders, and officials have joined forces to demand the construction of a footpath that connects to Palolem Beach.

Palolem Beach, known for its picturesque setting, attracts thousands of tourists annually during the peak season. However, the lack of dedicated pathways is causing difficulties for both tourists and locals, as there is only one main access route to the beach. The community fears that this situation might drive tourists away to nearby places.

Expressing deep concern about the potential negative impact on the local economy, local councillor Simon Rebello highlighted the challenges posed by the absence of pathways. He emphasised that the lack of access to the beach is diverting tourists away from Palolem, raising genuine fears about the livelihoods of local residents being affected.

During a press conference, influential figures such as Jacques Fernandes, Congressman Gaspar Coutinho, and PTA President Wilson Fernandes expressed their support for the construction of the footpath. A meeting has been scheduled with local businessmen, Assembly speaker, and MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, along with Cancona Chairperson and his deputy, to discuss the issue.

In addition to the footpath concern, locals also raised alarms about the impact of fireworks in the area.

Jacques Fernandes stressed that pollution cannot be tolerated, calling for action against those responsible and seeking relief for the affected locals.
