40 stranded higher secondary students rescued from Charvane waterfall
Students were stranded after heavy rains in Sattari in the afternoon increased the flow of the stream below the waterfall
Forty students of St Francis Xavier Higher Secondary School Siolim had a miraculous escape, after they were stranded at the Charvane waterfall, Sattari due to heavy rains, at 1 pm on Monday.
Students had gone to the spot for a trek. At around 1 pm it started raining heavily and the down-stream flow of water increased, marooning the students on the other side. Realising the gravity of the situation at 2 pm they made a distress call to the Forest Guards. Six forest guards came and recused them at around 3.44 pm
The Valpoi Fire Station and police were called to the spot, but the forest guards managed to rescue the students to safety.
“The students of St Francis Xavier Higher Secondary School had gone for a trek to Charvane waterfall which has a small stream flowing below it. Suddenly there was heavy rains and they students were stranded on the other side and they could not cross. All the students were rescued safely by Forest Guards. No one was injured and they safely left for Siolim,”

“We enjoyed at the waterfall. At first the water was less. After it rained the water started increasing. The red mud started flowing with the water. Then we realized the situation was getting worrisome. Then the flow of the water increased and we could not cross the stream,”
