47 banks and societies will have counters to accept power bills

PONDA: As the Power Department suddenly directed the banks and societies in Goa to stop accepting powers bills from Feb 1, the consumers left with no option rushed to the Department counter all over Goa at Panda, Panjim, Vasco and Margao only to witness long queues and stand in those queues to pay their bills. The consumers were furious with the power department for not creating awareness of the new system. 

Finally taking note of the hardship faced by consumers   displayed at The Electricity Department counters the fresh list of 47 Banks and societies having around 219 branches all over Goa that will have the bill accepting counters.

Herald met the Executive Engineer Sunil Wadekar  at Curti Sub station and asked about the hardship to consumers he said consumers should not panic as department has switched to new systems under Bharathi bill payment system (BBPS) in coordination with Thane Janta Sahakari Bank.  He said bill accepting counter system will in place on Feb 7 at all bill collection centres in Goa. Currently the all the societies and banks registered with this system are in process of installing the counters along with provision of Net connectivity.  He declared the list of 47 banks and societies having 219 Branches all over goa that are registered with Thane Janata Sahakari Bank under BBPS Scheme to accept power bills.
