MARGAO: Margao Muncipal Councillor Mahesh Amonkar on Thursday suspected that illegal aadhar cards were being issued to citizens of Nepal and demanded a probe into the matter and alleged that an agency here was involved in the racket.
“What we have witnessed is that there was a huge rush for applying for aadhar cards at Margao by Nepalis. We have also found that the concerned agency is charging up to Rs 5000 for
issuing the aadhar card. Such types of illegal activities need to be stopped immediately,” Amonkar stated,
Amonkar said that he has already informed about this to the concerned police officials, however, presently the said agency has shifted base from Margao to the Housing Board.
“It has been also noticed that a person named Raju from Panjim is involved in helping the citizens of Nepali, who are presently in Goa for getting aadhar cards. Tomorrow they will apply for the voting card if such illegal activities are not stopped immediately”, he stated. As informed by Amonkar, those citizens of Nepal are attaching fake documents in order to get the aadhar card.
However, a police officer said that they are investigating into the matter and culprits will be booked for engaging in illegal activities. He further appealed to the locals to be alert and raise their voice or inform the police if anything of such activities are found in their localities.
