MARGAO: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that the government stop unregulated service, regularise all persons and grant them retirement benefits.
The party also accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and former chief minister Digambar Kamat of introducing the worst personnel management in government service.
AAP made the demand while felicitating Vimal Shirodkar, the home guard who retired after 34 years of dedicated service demanded that the government stop unregulated service without any retirement benefits including pension.
AAP Goa Convener Elvis Gomes who himself was in the administrative service said the government was exploiting people through the unregulated service recruitment as the staff do not get any retirement benefits including pension.
“Despite working for 34 years, Vimal today does not even have a proper accommodation that she can live in,” he said while pointing out that she is not entitled for any pension or retirement benefits despite her laudable service that is much appreciated by people who applauded her on the social media.
“The lower cadre of police are abused constantly by their seniors due to which they are frustrated and ventilate this frustration on the public as seen through the assaults on public,” said Elvis while terming the personnel management being the worst in Goa.
Pointing out that he has interacted as a bureaucrat with Chief Ministers Digambar Kamat and Manohar Parrikar he accused both of destroying personnel management in government service. “Both of them promoted and protected certain people while systematically targeting and underscoring others,” he said.
South Goa Convener of AAP Rodney Almeida recalled how Vimal manned the zebra crossing at Marliz in Margao and would even physically stop motorists who tried to violate her stop order and said AAP would write to the Chief Secretary to take care of Home Guards particularly when they retire.
Sr Florence Mary of Carmel College expressed her great admiration for Vimal for her work and recalled that she had in fact written a letter to the editor in the 80s praising her great work.
Vimal was all praise for Arvind Kejriwal for transforming Delhi which she saw during her recent visit to her friend there. “Earlier there used to be no water but now there is enough of drinking water available in Delhi,” she said while admitting that earlier she used to dismiss AAP but was impressed by seeing the change in Delhi.
Incidentally, the CID branch of police at Margao also felicitated Vimal in the morning. However, they had a very quiet affair where neither the media nor senior police officials were invited and CID Police Inspector Ram Assare felicitated her.
