Administrators appointed for Goa’s 11 municipalities as term of councils ends

PANJIM: The State government on Thursday appointed Municipal Administrators to oversee the affairs of eleven municipalities, whose council term ended on November 4. 

The councils of Mormugao, Margao, Mapusa, Bicholim, Cuncolim, Curchorem, Quepem, Canacona, Sanguem, Pernem and Valpo were elected on October 27, 2015 and were due for fresh elections in October, 2020. 

The State Election Commission (SEC) had proposed to conduct the polls to elect new council on October 18. However, due to worsening COVID-19 crisis, the polls were postponed by three months. 

As such, the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has appointed Municipal Administrators- Prasanna Acharya for Margao; Gurudas Pilarnekar for Mormugao; Paresh Phaldesai for Mapusa; Vikas Gaunekar for Bicholim; Florina Colaco for Cuncolim; Ashutosh Apte for Curchorem-Cacora; Deepali Naik for Quepem; Rajesh Ajgaonkar for Valpoi; Nilesh Dhaigodkar for Sanguem; Johnson Fernandes for Canacona and Ravishekhar Nipanikar for Pernem. 

It has been learnt that the elections for the 11 Municipal councils will be held by end of February, 2021 along side with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), whose term is slated to end in March, next year.
