MARGAO: Citizens of Raia expressed anger over the sudden power shut down they experienced on Tuesday, without any prior notice, which led to losses for commercial establishments.
Residents of Raia told O Heraldo that they were put through hardships during the power cut on Tuesday, especially due to the ongoing wave of heat and humidity Power supply was interrupted in many parts of the Raia village for two to three hours, and the reason cited was tree cutting/trimming as part of the pre-monsoon works.
Raia local Anthony Fernandes criticised the Electricity Department's lack of communication, questioning the necessity of conducting tree cutting/trimming works throughout the year, which inconveniences residents. He emphasised the need for advance notice during extreme heat conditions.
"Nobody was made aware about Tuesday's power shutdown in many parts of Raia village.
The Department should have informed the people well in advance in order to avoid inconvenience," he stated.
He added that frequent failure of power supply has become a regular problem in the village and complained that no political leader is interested in resolving the issue.
Piedade Gomes, another resident of Raia village said that he suffered losses due to the sudden power outage.
"The perishable goods I brought for a catering order got wasted due to the power shutdown for almost three hours. We could have made some arrangements if we were given notice through proper channels," he stated.
