PANJIM: The Opposition will try to corner the government on the various issues plaguing the State in the Monsoon Session of the Goa Legislative assembly which begins on Monday, July 15.
According to Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, 648 starred questions and 1,942 unstarred questions have been tabled by members.
“The assembly will also pass a vote on account for the next six months during the session. MLAs are expected to raise issues of their respective constituencies and it is hoped that good discussions will take place on the floor of the House, centred around the development of the State," the Speaker said.
The Opposition is likely to corner the government over the issue of law and order, controversy related to demolition of a house at Assagao by using bouncers and role of police, transfer of DGP Jaspal Singh, Karnataka diverting water of Mhadei, PRAWAH Committee visiting Goa and Karnataka, shoddy work in the renovation of Kala Academy, landslides along the highways, opposition to EDM, airlines shifting operations to Mopa Airport from Dabolim, political reservation for STs in the Assembly, hike in power bills and shoddy Smart City works.
Fridays will be reserved for private reservations. The first three days of the assembly will have discussion on the budget.
On July 12, 2024, the Congress MLAs had met at the State Legislative Assembly complex to formulate a strategy for the session.
“We have asked several questions earlier. This time too, we, all the Opposition MLAs will raise questions. The questions will be related to the environment which is being destroyed, Tanmar Project, double tracking, coal pollution and new education policy (NEP) among others,” Yuri Alemao had informed the mediapersons.
Alleging that the government does not want the Opposition to question, Alemao said, “I want to tell the government before the Assembly session that gone are the days and with the recent Lok Sabha election results there is a change.”
Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai has said that he has filed a total of 54 Starred Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) and 450 unstarred LAQs, totaling around 504.
He said he will table 18 Zero Hour mentions and 18 calling attention. “Three private member resolutions will be introduced, including the status of football clubs and the future of football in the State, and a law to protect the rights of Goan employees in the private sector. The party has also moved a private member bill, The Goa State Employment of Local Candidates Bill 2024, which mandates private companies to recruit 80 per cent Goans," he said.
AAP MLA Capt Venzy has said he will introduce two resolutions namely inclusion of Christian farmers in the State’s OBC list and cashless subsidy disbursement to agriculture and dairy farmers.
