BJP fields candidates for North, South ZP chief posts

PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday fielded Shankar Chodankar for the post of Adhyaksh of North Goa Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and Sanjana Velip as Adhyaksh for South Goa ZP.

Both, Chodankar and Velip filed their nomination papers for the posts on Friday. A special meetings of both the ZPs has been convened on Monday, September at 10.30 am to elect the new Adhyakshas. Both are likely to be declared elected unopposed.

Chodankar was elected as ZP Member from Chorao ZP constituency while, Velip represents Guirdolim ZP constituency. Both the posts had fallen vacant following the resignations of Siddesh Naik (North ZP) and Suvarna Prabhu Tendulkar (South ZP) early August. Their resignations were accepted by Director of Panchayats Siddhi Halarnkar.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the party will ask Upadhyaksha of both the ZPs to resign to pave way for other members to take over. The next ZP elections are scheduled in December next year.
