PONDA: The Curti Khandepar Panchayat and Ponda Municipal Council have collaborated to establish a five tonnes per day wet waste treatment plant in Kerya-Khandepar.
The project aims to maintain the town and panchayat clean and beautiful. The foundation was laid by Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, in the presence of PMC chairperson Anand Naik, councillors, Curti Khandepar Sarpanch Harish Naik, panch members and officials.
The land for waste treatment plant belongs to Ponda Municipal Council which is located in Curti Khandepar Panchayat jurisdiction. The project is estimated to cost Rs 2.60 crore and is expected to be completed within six months.
The officials said the existing 6.5 tonnes per day (TPD) wet waste treatment plant is functioning in Kerya Khandepar and with the foundation laid for the new 5 TPD plant, the total capacity has now reached 11.5 TPD. This project will together treat wet waste in Curti Khandepar and PMC areas and also generate electricity.
