RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 23rd Benaulim Villagers Cup by defeating CAC Cansaulim, 4-3, in a tense tie-breaker, organised by Dando Boys Club – Benaulim and held at St John de Baptista ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Friday.
The game began with promise, as Don Bosco had an early opportunity to take the lead, but Myron Fernandes' shot was blocked by the Cansaulim goalkeeper in the 6th minute. CAC Cansaulim responded in the 20th minute when Slevin de Melo's shot was comfortably saved by Fatorda's goalkeeper, Acton Barbosa. Both teams went into halftime locked in a 0-0 draw.
In the second half, CAC Cansaulim squandered three clear chances through Elvino Fernandes, Aaron Fernandes and Rishley Soares in the 35th, 45th, and 58th minutes, respectively. Fatorda also missed their opportunities, with Ashley Furtado, Hanshlum Furtado and Edison Dias failing to convert in the 38th, 50th, and 56th minutes. Cliff Barreto's powerful shot in injury time narrowly missed the target, leaving the match scoreless at full-time.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Don Bosco’s Roque Borges, Alfred Noronha, Hanshlum Furtado and Edger Noronha all scored, while CAC Cansaulim’s Aaron Fernandes, Jesus D’Sa and Ashwin Fernandes found the net.
