MAPUSA: Irwin Faleiro scored a sensational hat- trick, leading Loyola High School, Margao, to a commanding 3-1 victory over St Britto’s High School, Mapusa, in the finals of the Goan Sports Association inter-school boys U-15 rolling football tournament.
The event, organized by Assagao Union High School in collaboration with the Goan Sports Association - Mumbai, took place on the eve of National Sports Day at the Assagao Union High School ground on Wednesday.
Loyola High School dominated the match early on, breaking the deadlock a minute before halftime when Irwin Faleiro found the back of the net with a precise finish, giving his team a 1-0 lead.
St Britto’s quickly responded just two minutes into the second half with Tanish Tendulkar’s powerful strike from inside the 18-yard box, which left the Loyola goalkeeper helpless, equalising the score at 1-1.
As the match progressed, Loyola High School intensified their attack, pinning St Britto’s inside their own half. Irwin Faleiro then took charge, scoring two more goals to secure a 3-1 victory for his team.
Loyola High School was awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000, along with a trophy, medals, and certificates for their triumph, while St Britto’s High School received a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a trophy, medals, and certificates as runners-up. A total of 13 schools participated in the one-day tournament.
At the start of the match chief guest Anil Pai Kakode -vice president of Goan Sports Association-Mumbai, guest of honour Sagar Kesarkar-President of PTA, were introduced to the players and match officials by Shreedhar
Naik (headmaster).
Also present were Edric D'Souza - chairman of Assagao Union High School & president of Assagao Association, Ruildo D'Souza (secretary), Joseph FX D'Souza (treasurer) and members Edwin Fonseca, Marcone Cordeiro and Anthony Fernandes.
Amit Virnodkar (PE) supervised the matches while Merlyn Miranda and Eshwari Redkar compered the function.
