JMFC convicts trucker for drunken driving

PANJIM: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, convicted Kishna Ram, a goods carrier truck driver and sentenced him to undergo five days simple imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 for operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. In the event of non-payment of the fine, he will undergo additional 10 days of imprisonment.

The Porvorim Traffic Cell had apprehended Ram near Teen Building Junction following a report of erratic driving on August 28, at 11.23 pm. Upon inspection, he exhibited clear signs of intoxication, including a strong odour of alcohol, slurred speech, and unstable behaviour. A breathalyser test revealed an alcohol concentration of 409.3 mg/100 ml, well above the permissible limit.

The JMFC convicted him under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. Reacting to the conviction, the Goa Police stated that it was a significant judicial outcome in the enforcement of traffic regulations.
