PANJIM: MES’s Vasant Joshi College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar, won the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi Championship for Men 2024-25, for the fifth consecutive time, by defeating Swami Vivekananda VM’s College of Commerce, Borim, with a score of 53-34. The event took place at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium, Goa University.
In the women’s championship, Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim, emerged victorious, defeating Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, with a score of 47-41.
In the men’s section, earlier in the semis-finals in the MES’s Vasant Joshi College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar defeated Kala Academy Goa’s College of Theatre Arts with a score of 49-44 and Swami Vivekananda VM’s College of Commerce, Borim, defeated Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, by a score of 44-21.
In the women’s semi-finals, Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim, defeated Shree Mallikarjun and Shri Chetan Manju Desai College of Arts and Commerce, Canacona, by a score of 56-43 and Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim, defeated GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi, Ponda, by a score of 47-40.
The best player in men was awarded to Ali Ahmed Gaudi of MES’s Vasant Joshi College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar, and the best player in women was awarded to Trupti Velip of Cuncolim Educational Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Cuncolim.
In total, 34 men’s and 20 women’s teams participated in the championship.
The MES’s Vasant Joshi College Kabaddi Men team consisted of Lohit Naik, Ali Ahmed Gaudi, Navin Goudar, Rajeev Parwar, Beelu Lamani, Anand Madar, Suresh Hadpad, Sidhant Lamani, Ganesh Birader, Manjunath Bani, Sadasiva Nagoda and Abhishek Yamnappa.
The Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Porvorim, team consisted of Shabana Saudegar, Ashu Chauhan, Niya Velip, Maya Gaonkar, Yashmita Talwadkar, Pushpa Vishwakarma, Tanvi Naik, Sinjal Kalangutkar, Ankita Gaonkar, Navisha Jalmi, Trisha Gaude and Pinaki Pednekar.
Chief Guest for the presentation ceremony was Prof Jivan Parab, vice Dean, School of Physical and Applied Sciences, Goa University, guest of honours were Dr Sushant Haldankar, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, DM’s College, Assagao, Joslyn D’Souza, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, St Xavier’s College, Mapusa and Tanvesh Vengurlekar, Physical Education Teacher, Dr KB Hedgewar School, Ponda along with Balachandra Jadar, Asst Director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University.
