PORVORIM: The State government is considering including the villages of Nuvem and Loutolim under Verna Police Station.

The assurance from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant came in response to a starred question tabled by MLA Wilfred D’Sa seeking inclusion of the nearby villages under Verna PS. In his reply, the CM said, “If you want, we will put it under Verna PS based on the jurisdiction. The nearby villages will be joined in the same PS.”

Sawant, who is also the Home Minister explained to the House that crime statistics, areas, population, vital installation, traffic points, law & order issues and other policing requirements are to be taken into consideration by the government before notifying a new Police Station.

To another starred question about new Maina Curtorim PS tabled by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, the CM assured the House that the PS will be temporarily shifted to a vacant government primary school.

“On July 23, 2020, the premises of Government Primary School, Manora, Raia, was inspected for temporary shifting of Maina Curtorim PS. NOC from the Director of Education has been obtained. NOC from the Directorate of Women & Child Development is awaited since two rooms are occupied by the Anganwadi Centre under the Director of Women and Child Development. Decision will be taken upon receipt of NOC from the Director of Women and Child Development,” Sawant said adding that tender for the new structure for the PS will be issued within three months.

He further revealed that design prepared by the Chief Architect, PWD, Altinho has been examined and some changes/modification have been suggested.  “Once, the design is approved and estimates are prepared, the same will be accorded Government Approval and after Administrative Approval & Expenditure Sanction, PWD will take up construction works. As such it is not possible to inform at this stage the time frame for its completion,” the CM said.

The government will also give directions to the PWD to start construction of the new PS building instead of wasting money on “making the compound first.”

“The compound wall can come thereafter,” he added.
