PANJIM: The members of the Water Sports Association on Thursday expressed apprehension that the Tourism Department is trying to manage their business through an agency.
Speaking to mediaperons after calling on Captain of Ports Octavio Antony Rodrigues, Water Sports Association president Paul Silveira said, “There is a fear that Tourism Department is going to manage us, but the water sports operators have decided that we should be given licence as soon as possible as the tourism season will start once the rains stop."
“The fear is that the government is trying to give our business to some agency. But we are not ready to be managed by someone else. We are equipped with the system which the government requires and from the beginning of the season we will work according to the same. There are guidelines set by the High Court also and we will start our business according to the same," he said.
Meanwhile, Captain of Ports Octavio Antony Rodrigues told O Heraldo that there should be proper system in place before the season starts.
“To ensure safety, security and welfare of our water sports operators there should be a proper system before starting the activities. I have briefed the association members how to have all the systems in place. There should not be overloading. If they have any grievances, it should be solved amicably. They have come up with many issues and I think they can be resolved. I hope they have a good season,” he said.
