AGENCIES, PANJIM: The Goa Police are awaiting the Russian Consulate’s approval to conduct post-mortem of the body of “Kanchana 3” actor and 24-year-old Russian model Alexandra Ri Djavi, who was found dead in an apartment at Siolim.
A senior police official said the body was kept in a mortuary while they were waiting for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Russian Consulate to conduct the autopsy.
The police have already started an investigation into the case and recorded the statement of her boyfriend, he said.
It may be recalled that on August 19, Anjuna Police received information from Siolim Primary Health Centre (PHC) that the 24-year-old model was brought dead in an ambulance. Upon enquiry it revealed that her body was found hanging in a rented apartment at Gublawaddo, Oxel-Siolim. The deceased, who was staying with her boyfriend, was mentally disturbed and was under medication.
On August 19, in her boyfriend’s absence she allegedly used a sari to commit suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan hook in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Advocate Vikram Varma, the Goa representative of the Russian Consulate in Mumbai, urged the police to conduct a probe into the "possible role" of a Chennai-based photographer into the woman's death.
"I was informed that the woman had been hounded and blackmailed by a
person in Chennai. After a preliminary inquiry, the Chennai Police had found enough evidence to register an FIR and subsequently arrest him,” he said.
Varma said the case (of the woman's death) "may have other facets which are not clearly visible at this stage".
The Russian Consulate was monitoring the case and would provide all required information and assistance to the Goa Police, he added.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Police said they would assist their Goa counterparts with any details of the 2019 sexual harassment case if and when needed.
According to sources, in 2019, the 24-year-old model had filed a complaint against a photographer in Chennai accusing him of sexual harassment. She in her complaint had accused the photographer of seeking sexual favours to click photos. The photographer was arrested by Chennai Police and an FIR was registered.
Djavi had played the role of a revenge-seeking ghost in South Indian movie “Kanchana 3”, which was released in 2019.
