PANJIM: Bailancho Evott has urged the Chairperson of KTC and to the Minister of Transport for safe, comfortable and improvement in service by reducing the over loading of the buses and to ply more buses to improve the carrying capacity. This comes after from the painstaking and uncomfortable ride which the women, students and children experience in packed buses.

On Tuesday, Auda Viegas from Bailancho Evott highlighted the difficulties and the problem faced by the women, children and senior citizens who commute from far regions of the state, in a packed bus with no space to breathe.

Overcrowding in local Kadamba buses, safety and dignity of students and women commuters at risk, for fare collected from short distance no tickets are issued and rude behavior of Kadamba conductors are the four issues

The local Kadamba buses used by commuters are turning into a nightmare with students going through inappropriate touch by strangers due to overcrowding. According to Viegas, one such incident was brought to light on Friday 30 August 2024. The student victim of jam packed standing passengers was uncomfortable, felt violated, unable to turn herself complained to the conductor who turned a deaf ear to her. She had a tough struggle to free herself from the abuser's touch.

This is not the first incident of the kind. Packed buses are perfect breeding ground for women abusers. Atrocities happen in a packed beyond carrying capacity of a bus but they are regular occurrences and we have had such complaints before.

Furthermore, Viegas highlights a routine check up to be done on the tickets issued, the money collected, how many commuters and in whose pockets this illegally collected money go on. The conductors not only speak but behave rudely and in an irresponsible manner to women passengers.

Viegas expressed discontent over the authorities not taking any action as this issue was raised in May. She further urged the concerned authorities to ensure Kadamba buses are safe for women, girls and children by increasing the number of the shuttle buses which will automatically resolve all the issues.
