Banyan tree collapses on house in Pernem

PERNEM: A huge banyan tree came crushing down, partially damaging the house owned by one Rajeshree Dharma Patekar, resident of Voshelbagh, Dhargal, on Friday early morning.

According to the Pernem Fire Station, at around 7.30 am, the station received a call informing that a tree has collapsed. Immediately, a team of fire personnel rushed to the spot.

The fire team managed to save the property worth more than Rs one lakh. The tree also damaged the power supply line that led to power cut in the Dhargal area for more than an hour. The owner claimed a loss of Rs 60,000.

The team consisted of Dilip Gawas, Prashant Dhargalkar, Jairam Malik, Jairam Shetgaonkar, Prashant Sawal Desai, Pramod Gawandi, Domnic Martin, Shyam Arondekar, Vishal Patil, Rajesh Parab, Mayur Naik, Vithal Parab, Shailesh Haldankar, Amol Parab, Amit Sawal, Shekhar Mayekar, Ashirwad Gad and Manoj salgaonkar.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a banyan tree collapsed on a house owned by Rajaram Shirodkar, at Manshiwada, Corgaon and further damaged a compound wall causing a loss of Rs 50,000.
