MARGAO: Canacona Police on Saturday recorded statements of three foreigners in connection with the death of 62-year-old British national Andrew Mark Charlambides whose body was found in the bathroom of a hotel where he was staying at Palolem, Canacona.
The police have recovered some tablets from the premises he was residing at and the same will be sent to Margao for testing and thereafter a postmortem examination will be done.
“We have contacted Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to contact the British embassy in order to intimate his family members about the incident,” said a senior police officer guiding the investigation.
The police said that victim’s sister lives in Britain and efforts were on to contact her. Andrew is survived by his wife and children, said police and family members, who reside in Thailand, New Zealand and other countries.
The police said that they have recorded statements of three foreigners and one of them said that Andrew was celebrating his birthday on that fateful day and had invited him to attend the party. However, Andrew did not respond.
The police said that as usual hotel staff had gone to check the rooms and found the British national missing. However, later he was found dead in the bathroom.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174 of CrPC and PSI Suhas Velip is investigating the case.
