PANJIM: MLAs across parties congratulated Congress veteran and former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane for entering his 50th year as MLA.

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat had moved the congratulatory motion on the first day of budget session of Assembly on Wednesday.

Rane, with folded hands thanked the MLAs for their kind words and also encouraged them to do what they have been elected to do, complete the works of their voters wherever possible.

While Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hailed Rane for his immense contribution to the State government, other MLAs recalled the large number of major decisions taken by the Rane when he was the CM.

They pointed out that this changed the face of Goa today and praised Rane for having the vision that has benefited the State.

His son BJP MLA Vishwajit Rane delivered a touching speech about his father, the development works he executed and also about the person he is and the warm equations senior Rane shares with the other MLAs. Vishwajit said he got into politics to live up to the legacy of his father and that even the Prime Minister had asked him to work hard like his father.

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday in a tweet congratulated senior Rane. The tweet shared the picture that was uploaded on CM Sawant’s official handle of the MLAs offering bouquet of flowers to senior Rane.

“Congratulations to Shri Pratapsingh Rane Ji on this momentous feat of completing 50 years as MLA. His passion for public service and Goa’s progress is reflected in his work. I remember our interactions when we both served as Chief Ministers of our respective States,” the PM said.
