PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said a new Streetlight Policy would be finalised soon after amending the Municipal and Goa Panchayati Raj Acts.

This, he said, would solve several existing issues regarding streetlighting.

Sawant intervened duing a Calling Attention Notice tabled by Ponda MLA Ravi Naik expressing fears in the minds of the people that replacement of streetlights and other works would be done at the cost of the consumers.

Opposition MLAs -- Sudin Dhavalikar and Rohan Khaunte -- also listed out various problems with the entire exercise of installing and replacing streetlights as well as the maintaining them.

The Ponda MLA pointed out that as per Code of Regulation 2018 of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, installation of more than 100KV separate transformers will also be done at the cost of the consumers.

Power Minister Nilesh Cabral first explained the rules and how all these works and the steps the government has taken to streamline the processes and make sure that the public are not troubled.

He spoke on augmenting the overall power infrastructure and cited an example of how all power cables would have a tag that can help the department carry out repair works quickly.
