MARGAO: The residents of Carmona today staged a protest at Hotel Verda and questioned the authorities on various discrepancies in the project. The villagers have called it a 'mini Raheja' and vowed to stop the operations if found irregular.
Around 100 people stormed the hotel and questioned the authorities. They asked the authorities how the project which was a residential one had turned into a commercial project and later a hotel comes up. The people have blamed the former sarpanch and the panches for allowing this to happen except one panch who had earlier opposed the project.
"We have filed RTIs to seek information on how the project which was residential became commercial. If any disxrepancies are observed, we will make sure the operations are shut," said Venzy Viegas from Carmona.
"The former sarpanch Sandra Fernandes and 5 panchas are culprits and we have demanded a site inspection. Legal aspects will be seen into and the Panchayat will be urged to take necessary action," said Venzy.
The agitators said the plying of heavy vehicles has disturbed the peace and tranquility of the area. "The road is very narrow and our kids often play on the thoroughfare. The vehicles ply at a very high speed and there's fear of some eventuality all the time," said an elderly woman.
Also persons in an inebriated condition coming out of the hotel have caused a lot of chaos and nuisance.
