PANJIM: The frank submission of Goans having high tolerance towards corruption weighed in on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) (ACB) Superintendent of Police Ashesh Kumar, becoming an important reason for his transfer.
Alok Kumar from the Mumbai Special Division wing of CBI Mumbai will take charge of the Goa CBI (ACB) office on Monday in place of SP Ashesh Kumar, who has been transferred to Mumbai.
SP Ashesh came to limelight after his statement on the “high tolerance of Goans towards corruption”. Sources from the CBI have informed that some Goa Congress leaders had met the SP and questioned him on his statement regarding no corruption cases being reported to them in Goa. The leaders also said that they will file complaints of corruption before the CBI.
Sources at the CBI Goa claimed that the transfer is a routine five-year completion procedure, however, with just 11 months of service remaining before he retires, SP Ashesh’s statement has had an impact on the decision to transfer him out of Goa. He has been transferred to Mumbai Regional Training Center of the CBI.
It may be recalled that Herald through its weekly Review page highlighted the inability of the CBI to investigate matters referred to them and how the CBI needs to have backing of allied resources for investigations.
