Centre sanctions Rs 100 cr for upgradation of  Goa University as MERU

PANJIM: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for upgradation of Goa University as Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU).

The decision was taken during the Project Approval Board (PAB) meeting of Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA).

The amount approved for Goa University under the scheme is Rs 999,920,109.

In order to transform the university into MERU, its previous departments have been developed into various schools according to their functional similarities.

The PAB has allocated grants to several other universities across the country for setting up MERUs as it is one of the action points of NEP 2020.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sanctioning the the fund.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said, ''I thank Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for sanctioning Rs.100 Crore for Goa for upgradation of Goa University as Multi-Disciplinary Education & Research University (MERU) under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan.''
