Wasteful expenditure on Varsity road

I would like to draw the attention of the readers and authorities to what amounts to an unnecessary extravagance, where an already smooth road is being resurfaced near the Goa University , while nearby areas requiring attention are ignored.

Should tax-payer’s money be wasted in meaningless road improvements?

The road sees year-round VIP movement, regular high-profile events at the Indoor Stadium, provides access to multiple five-star properties, and is an arterial road for bustling Taleigao and affluent Dona Paula.

These are enough guarantee that the road is maintained in excellent quality, with zero potholes and barely any rough patches along the entire stretch.

With its well-marked lanes, gentle curves and minimal traffic, it is certainly one of the more pleasurable drives to be had around Panjim. Therefore, it is surprising to see road-resurfacing happening on an already smooth road. Surely, there are many areas more deserving of repair. What possible justification could support the Government’s approval of such expenditure? The fact that there is only fast-moving traffic and no residences along the majority of this road, only means that these works, relatively speaking, are out of the public-eye. Already, an extensive stretch of freshly-laid tarmac can be seen glistening under the hot Goan sun. As work continues briskly, one is unfortunately reminded of the popular saying - make hay while the sun shines.
