CLEANLINESS DRIVES: 364 days of garbage, 1 day of cleaning
PANJIM: Although the civic bodies’ main task is to do daily cleaning within their jurisdiction, a special Swacch Bharat Mission was launched, spending crores of rupees. However, the stubborn problem of garbage dumping does not seem to go away. On the Occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, many leaders launched cleanliness drives within their constituencies. But this seems to be a case of 364 days garbage and 1 day of cleaning.
Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho launched the Manned Transfer Station at the Chicolna Bus Stop, under the Swacch Bharat Gramin Mission 2.0. He also launched the pioneering 'POTI' initiative, an effort by Goa Waste Management Corporation to control garbage.
But despite this one day symbolic effort and lip service to cleanliness, garbage littered in many parts of Goa
Today we also saw Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar engaging in Baina Beach Cleanliness Drive with CISF personnel on Gandhi Jayanti, admiring their commitment to national security and community welfare. He also praised PM Narendra Modijis transformative Swacchh Bharat vision, marking 10 years of Swachh Bharat.
However, we see that despite these tall claims, the garbage situation has not changed much, the every village, every roadside and every bylane is still littered.
We also saw ee Cortalim MLA Anton Vas participating in the cleanliness drive at Velsao and installing a signboard at Pale in association with MES college and Lions Club of Majorda Cansaulim Velsao.
In a case of supreme irony, again we see garbage piled up in different parts of Goa. How will the government find a permanent solution to the garbage problem which plagues Goa despite the 10 year Swacch Bharat programme where crores of rupees are spent?
