PANJIM: In a bid to streamline public utility services, Goa’s electricity board has enabled online payment of water and electricity bills through the state portal.
The Electricity Department stated, “In an endeavor to deliver e-payment facilities to the people of Goa, the Electricity Department, Public Works Department, Goa Electronics Limited, and Goa government, in association with the Department of Information Technology have enabled online payment of bills through the state portal (https://www.goa.gov.in).
With this facility, electricity and water consumers will be able to pay their respective bills through credit and debit cards and internet banking through any bank. The service charge to avail e-payments by debit cards and internet banking will be absorbed by the government, while the service charges for credit card payments will be levied on the consumer. The state will use the State Bank of India payment gateway.
“With this new initiative, consumers can pay their electricity and water bills at their convenience, relieving them of standing in long queues and thus saving their valuable time,” said the government communiqué.
Public utility bills in Goa are often a nightmare. At times they are issued late, while other times the consumers get a three - six month consolidated bill.
