PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday welcomed the Government of India’s decision to provide free food grains to 80 crore people in the country.
“A great pro-poor step by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji to provide free food grains to around 80 crore people costing Rs 26,000 crore,” Sawant tweeted.
The Union government will provide free five-kg of food grains per person per month under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann for May and June 2021. Around 80 crore beneficiaries across the country will get free food grains for two months, he stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that it is important that the poor of the country have nutritional support when the country is facing the second wave of Coronavirus, Sawant said. The Government of India would spend more than Rs 26,000 crore on this initiative, he added.
