Colva Creek Faces Severe Pollution: Locals Urge Government Action for Cleanup
Published on

Colva Creek, located near the renowned Colva Beach, is grappling with severe pollution caused by sewage water and plastic waste. The creek is increasingly filled with floating plastic bottles and other garbage, turning the water murky and foul-smelling, making it an unpleasant sight for visitors. This pollution poses a serious threat to local fish and marine life, raising concerns about the ecological impact on the area.

Simon Rodrigues, a local resident, expressed frustration over the persistent issue, stating that despite promises from previous panchayats and MLAs to address the creek's pollution, no meaningful action has been taken. "The situation doesn’t seem like it will improve anytime soon. We have heard many false promises in the past, but nothing has been done," he said. Rodrigues also noted that local hotel owners, who are impacted by the unpleasant condition of the creek, are not responsible for the pollution, suggesting that government intervention is crucial to resolve the issue.

Another local, Judith Almeida, echoed Rodrigues' concerns, describing the scene as "shocking" due to the large amounts of garbage and sewage dumped into the creek. Both locals emphasized the urgent need for the government to prioritize the cleanup and restoration of Colva Creek to protect the environment and improve the area's appeal for both residents and tourists.
