Commuters want cautionary signboards on Borim Bridge to prevent accidents

PONDA:  The Borim Bridge repair work has been welcomed by the public, but daily commuters expressing safety concerns, have demanded that cautionary signboards - ‘go slow, work in progress’ – be installed at both ends of the bridge to prevent accidents.

The commuters complained that the channels erected for repair work pose a risk to commuters, especially bikers and pillion riders, due to speeding vehicles on the narrow bridge.

Sunil Naik, a rider, said the channels have been installed on both sides of the bridge road by drilling the surface to support the scaffolding below bridge over the river for repair works. The reduced width of the road due to the channels further increases the risk of accidents.

They claimed that the caution barricading tapes installed at the site to alert motorists are often ignored and added that despite the signboard displaying the speed limit of 30, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles continue to speed on the bridge.
