PANJIM: A day after the government increased the entry age limit for government service, the Congress said it will lead to an increase in unemployment in the State.
Speaking to the media, Leader of the Opposition Pratasingh Rane said, “It is not fair to increase the existing maximum age to enter into government service. Youth should get jobs at the age of 20-25 years,” Rane said.
He said that instead of increasing the age limit, the government should get in good industries and companies which will resolve the issue of unemployment.
Rane said that people who enter service at 45 years will not deliver their best whereas youth can perform better.
“If you are taking elders in service at the age of 45 years, what will they deliver? They have got so many things of their own at that age, they have got married, they have got children to look after and so many things. Ideally, youth should be recruited in service,” Rane said.
The cabinet on Friday had approved a proposal to enhance the upper age limit for a government job from the present 40 years to 45 years. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had said unemployment is the reason why they have extended the age limit.
