VASCO: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) office bearers along with the locals from Headland Sada confronted Mormugao Police Station Inspector Pravin Powar on Tuesday evening.
The mob asked the police inspector to register an offence against Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and his supporters in multiple cases of which some individuals have given counter complaints with Mormugao Police Station a few days back.
On Tuesday evening, the political drama unfolded at the Mormugao Police Station after many locals along with the GPCC office bearers came to Mormugao Police Station to ask for justice and to enquire the reasons behind the non registration of offence against minister Naik and his supporters for allegedly violation the Section 144, for cutting the tree branches without obtaining permission from the Forest Department and other issues.
GPCC office bearer Amarnath Panajikar asked the police inspector that after a counter complaint was filed by the locals against Milind Naik, why till date it has not been registered.
He also mentioned that police is an independent body to protect and to maintain law and order in society, but police here has not done justice on the locals.
Later, Janardhan Bhandari, Congressmen also questioned whether we are living in democracy or is this dictatorship wherein one minister is trying to control police.
Bhandari also demanded that Mormugao police should register offence against the minister and his supporters for violating Law on several occasions.
Later, Pratima Countinho, also came heavily on the police and said that the minister is using his power to corner and trouble Suraj (Balan) Chodankar who has only dared to ask the minister for the permissions to trim the tree.
She further opined that people have strong faith in the police and therefore it is highly expected from police to exercise their duty without keeping any biases.
Congress leaders who were present strongly demanded that police should book Minister Milind Naik and his supporters on the counter complaints filed by the locals, in connection with allegedly breaking the Section 144, cutting down tree branches without obtaining permissions and other such matters.
