MAPUSA: The North Goa District Congress Committee has slammed the Mapusa Municipal Council, PWD and BJP ministers for their failure to solve water and garbage problems faced by the Mapusa residents.
Addressing the media here, District Congress President Vijay Bhike claimed that rising illegal constructions has led to water crisis in Mapusa.
“Illegal constructions are on the rise in Mapusa. Structures have come up on comunidade lands but nobody is focusing on that. Several constructions have come up in Gausawada. Who has given permission for these constructions? Builders are supposed to rely on water tankers, but water is being diverted illegally to the builders,” he allged.
“People are giving rooms on rent and even the municipality must be getting revenue from that. Now when there is water crises, MMC realised that people staying on rent and 200 illegal constructions is leading to water crises. Not only 200 but there will be more than 200 illegal water connections in Mapusa and most of them are given to builders who diverts the water,” Bhike allged.
“According to officials 25 percent of water is wasted due to leakage. At present PWD is doing road work at Karaswada; however, since past several months water is leaking, but no PWD official has bothered to do anything about it,” Bhike alleged.
On the garbage issue in Mapusa, Bhike questioned whether the officers employed by the MMC are not capable of doing their tasks.
