PANJIM: A day after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that Director General (DG) of Shipping will conduct the investigation into the entire episode of the Naphtha-laden ship, Congress has objected to the same.
Addressing media persons on Friday, Congress spokesperson Sankalp Amonkar said that DG Shipping itself was responsible for granting permission for entry of the Naphtha-laden vessel to Goan waters. "On that basis, how can DG shipping conduct the investigation? Will it be a fair investigation? We object to the same," he said.
He said the party reiterates its demand that the investigation be conducted through Defence Intelligence Agency or National Intelligence Agency, since the ship originates from Pakistan.
The Naphtha-laden ship than ran aground off the Raj Bhavan coast in Goa has been towed to the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) after being re-floated on Wednesday night. The ship had run aground on October 24, approximately 2.5 nautical miles off Goa coast.
