PORVORIM: Congress legislator, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said diary operations carried out by the Gujarat-based Surat District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited (SUMUL) be banned in Goa.
“I used to fight with Parsekar and Parrikar on this issue in the assembly from 2012 onwards. I had told them that their own people or rather BJP supporters are against them for bringing SUMUL. They did not listen to me. Goa Dairy is a society that has been marketed and built by the local people. They may have done a lot of scams there but I had told the government to take action in the matter but not to bring SUMUL,” said Reginaldo, the Congress MLA from Curtorim.
“Today the problem with SUMUL is that they have started throwing milk out and taking any kind of milk they want. I had warned the farmers long back. This will be the same problem like GoaMiles in another two years. No one understands when we tell,” he added.
The Congress legislator from South Goa went on to inform that the people do not trust the facilities of the government.
“The government should ban SUMUL immediately from the State. They should support Goa Dairy and help them to run the services smoothly. I had offered that I am ready to help them to run it properly. Goa dairy is of the common man and who is cheating should be punished and good people should be brought in. If the government does not act in the matter the farmers will come on the road yet again. This is the first time they have come out. I will definitely take up their issue,” said Reginaldo while addressing reporters outside the assembly on Monday.
