MARGAO: The release of sewage water into drains and springs was the main topic of discussion at the gram sabha of the village panchayat Camorlim on Sunday. Basilio Fernandes, Sarpanch, warned of strict action against those responsible for creating a nuisance. He also informed the villagers that the panchayat had proposed to build a sewage treatment plant in the village to tackle the problem of septic tank leakages.

During the meeting, some villagers raised concerns about the sewage causing a nuisance and contaminating the springs. They also questioned the panchayat body about pre-monsoon works. Speaking to reporters, the Sarpanch agreed that sewage was being released into the drains and springs due to septic tank leakages.

He further informed that the panchayat body had proposed a sewage treatment plant in the village to tackle the sewage problem. "The proposed project is still in the pipeline, but it will help to tackle the overall issue of sewage if completed. It will surely benefit the villagers," said the Sarpanch. He also said that the pre-monsoon works would commence very soon and be completed before the monsoon.

One of the villagers told reporters that the panchayat body needed to take the sub-committees constituted by the panchayat about any projects or works being initiated. "What is the use of the committees if they are not taken into confidence for finalizing the works initiated?" he questioned. Villagers also raised questions about the ward-wise survey of the migrants, which is yet to start despite taking a resolution in the past.
